Elijah confronted priests of Baal at Mount Carmel and challenged them to prove who was the true God, the Lord or Baal, by having fire from heaven come down and consume the sacrifice. The priests of Baal prayed for hours without any results, while Elijah mocked them. Elijah. Once upon a time in a faraway kingdom, there lived an evil queen named Jezebel and her childish husband, Ahab. They led their people to worship heathen gods, and murdered any prophet of the Lord that they could get their hands on.

In verse 4, the Lord says, "I have commanded the ravens to provide for you," while in verse 9, he says "I have commanded a widow there to provide for you." The fact that Elijah was fed by ravens was a sign that, in exile, he would be sustained by Gentiles.
